OTTAWA – The Hon. MaryAnn Mihychuk, MP for Kildonan – St. Paul, has been elected Chair of the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs.
Mihychuk says her focus is on working on economic development for Indigenous People and the North.
“This represents an opportunity for Canada as a whole,” Mihychuk said. “Indigenous people will be crucial for Canada’s economic future. There is a young, vibrant indigenous population with enormous potential.”
Prior to her election in 2015, Mihychuk worked in the private and public sectors as a geoscientist. She has worked with Indigenous communities from coast to coast to coast.
“I congratulate the Honourable MaryAnn Mihychuk on her election and look forward to working together to make real progress for our peoples, building on the positive relationship we established through her work with the Assembly of First Nations as Minister,” said Assembly of First Nations National Chief Perry Bellegarde.
“I am honoured to bring my scientific and political experience to the committee,” said Mihychuk. “I am also very excited to work with my fellow members on the committee.”
